About Us

Discovery Harbour is the southernmost populated place in the United States.  The Discovery Harbour development was originally built around an 18-hole golf course, which is currently operated as a private members' only club. Discovery Harbour is a covenant-controlled community.  Many of the homes adjacent to the golf course enjoy expansive ocean and/or mountain views over the fairways and greens.

Our location on the Big Island is ideal, mid-point between the two major metropolitan areas of Kailua Kona and Hilo – or in sightseeing terms, halfway between the most beautiful beaches in the world in Kohala, and the rain forest and waterfalls on the eastern side of the island.  This location gives Discovery Harbour the seclusion and privacy of the countryside with the convenience of urban amenities not so far away.  We are located just 40 miles from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park where you can see an active volcano.

Planning your day might include a visit to famous Punalu’u Black Sand Beach just a few minutes away, where you can swim in crystal clear waters and spot endangered sea turtles.  Also, a short drive away is the Green Sand Beach, where the sand is truly green against the beautiful clear water.   Snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking and diving opportunities abound, not to mention golf courses, good restaurants and lots of exciting community events.

Most everyone has dreamed of Hawai'i and longed to visit!  The residents of Discovery Harbour feel privileged and happy to be here, where the weather is warm, but not too warm and the winters are cool, but not too cool.  Residents enjoy the ocean breezes and the ocean views, which most homes have.

You know you’ve found another lifestyle when you watch the sun come up out of the ocean, or when you drive the 10 minutes into Na’alehu town while looking at the green Waiohinu hills and the cows, goats and alpaca grazing in the fields.
